Sunday’s transfer rumours

David BeckhamAn increase in transfer speculation saw us interestingly linked with David Beckham.

Martin Jol said yesterday: “I’ll sit down and have a think about it tonight. We are well covered on the flanks already. It’s a difficult one. We’ve got Wayne Routledge, although he’s on loan, plus Hossam Ghaly and Aaron Lennon.”

I’m not sure what to think if we were interested in the Real Madrid midfielder. He’d cost a heck of a lot in terms of wages, and with that in mind, would he be able to justify such high wages?

I think if he joined he’d be very influential at the club with all his experience, something of a role that Edgar Davids has. Question is where would he play? I could possibly see him replacing Jermaine Jenas in a central miidfield role. But is he good enough there? On the right wing, I don’t think he contributes enough there, and with Aaron Lennon, there’s no role for him there. So it would be a curious move if it did in fact happen.

Other rumours are that Robbie Keane is being linked with a £5m move to Aston Villa and we’re supposedly considering making a move for ex-Arsenal defender Matthew Upson, who is with Birmingham City.
