“It is the history of the Tottenham” those infamous Chiellini words that have been turned into a meme to lambast a conception of the yids bottling trophies at every opportunity.

While it’s fair to say there is some truth to those words, most miss the fact that Spurs have grown into a side that competes for the top 4 every season after 20 years between 1990 and 2010 of finishing outside the top 4.

It’s easy for armchair detractors to sit back and joke about the 2007/08 League Cup win being the pinnacle of the club, but at the time of winning that final Spurs were not the European contenders they are now.

Spurs’ success comes from the incredible growth that has been fostered since the Premier League era, and it’s safe to say, for all his doubters, Daniel Levy has played a huge part in this ascension. As have charismatic managers.

Since the departure of Pochettino. Spurs have struggled to recapture that success and delightful on-the-pitch performance but with the enigmatic Postecoglou at the helm, they could just be in for another spell of great performances and potential success.

You only have to take a look at the title odds. Betiton’s Sportsbook in Ireland has Tottenham at 9.50 to win the premier league season, while finishing top 4 is at 1.42.

The improvement in such a short time is staggering, a sans Harry Kane Spurs are one of the Premier League teams to beat.

But what makes Postecoglou so different from managers before him, and can this run of form continue? Since Ange’s arrival, the odds on Spurs winning the Premier League have drastically shortened.

First off, humility and approachability. For all the tactical nuance, Ange has given Spurs something they haven’t had for 4 years since Pochettino’s reign, and that is humility.

Since Pochettino, Spurs took a drastic change in personnel as following the Pochetinno magic running dry, Jose Mourinho was appointed.

‘The Special One’s’ time here didn’t exactly prove successful, and it’s no wonder. Going from a Pochettino who had come from a lesser side like Southampton, stepping up to a bigger job, to Mourinho who, in his eyes was joining a lesser club with fewer trophies than he was used to was always going be hard to adapt to.

Then the colder, aggression of Conte that followed (after Nuno’s ill-fated spell we won’t talk about) was a further departure from the type of person and manager that took Tottenham to the next level.

Ange however is another U-turn in managerial style. Now back in line with Pochettino’s values, only Ange is perhaps an even better fit.

His humble rise alongside a real, genuine passion for player welfare has already made him a fan favourite, not just among Spurs fans, but across the Premier League.

Off the back of a meteoric rise, seeing him go from Yokohama F. Marinos to Celtic, to Spurs in the space of just 3 years Postecoglou has kept his humble attitude, leading to a seamless easy managerial transition.

Tactically, Spurs have changed significantly compared to Conte-ball. Thanks to some smart signings that fit Ange’s system, Tottenham have all the tools to play exactly as the coach wants them to.

Typically employing a 4-2-3-1, a welcome departure from the 5/3 defender formations under Conte and Mourinho, Postecoglou has made Tottenham both one of the teams to beat and among the most entertaining sides to watch.

The industrious double pivot in midfield alongside the driving full-backs of Pedro Porro and new signing Destiny Udogie are the engine and foundation that allow the 4 attackers to play with freedom.

With the signing of the season contender, Maddison making an inspired start to his life here, while Son fills the gap left by Kane, Ange has finally signed the missing pieces of the puzzle, as Spurs move from European outsiders to legitimate title contenders.

Well… as far as their first 10 games have gone, without getting too far ahead of ourselves, it certainly looks like the Postecogolou era could surpass even the success of Pochettino.

“It is the history of the Tottenham” those infamous Chiellini words that have been turned into a meme to lambast a conception of the yids […]

[7

post-2118","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-tottenham-hotspur
