The Lilywhites were 90 minutes away from lifting their first piece of European silverware for 35-years last season when they reached the Champions League final but alas, it was not to be.

That means Tottenham’s 1984 UEFA Cup triumph over Anderlecht remains the last time Spurs tasted glory outside of the British game.

With eleven players taking to the pitch for the second leg decider, we look back at their careers and see where they were when they retired from playing the beautiful game.

Despite his penalty heroics, Parks was not first choice at Spurs and only played 37 league games in eight years at the club. He left for Brentford in 1988 and played 71 league games in just two seasons before going on to play for 11 clubs throughout the 1990’s.

The keeper eventually ended his career in 2002 with Halifax Town.

Twice capped for England, right back Danny Thomas only played for two clubs. After spending four years with Coventry, he moved to the Lilywhites in 1983 and stayed with the club until 1988 when a knee injury forced his retirement.

Roberts was captain of Tottenham for the two legged final and netted a total of 23 times in over 200 league games for the Lilywhites in just six years.

After leaving the club in 1986, he played for the likes of Rangers, Chelsea, and West Brom before eventually retiring from playing in 1999 with Slough Town before moving into management.

Defender Miller won two FA Cups and the UEFA Cup in an eleven-year career with Tottenham before leaving the club for Charlton, Watford, Bournemouth, and Swansea City where he retired from playing in 1991.

Now a successful manager, Hughton was also a successful full back and after nearly 300 league appearances for Tottenham, eventually moved to West Ham in 1990. Two years later and Hughton spent his final playing season with Brentford before moving making the move into management.

Tottenham brought Stevens after a successful spell at Brighton and seven years and nearly 150 league appearance for Spurs proved fruitful for both. The defender left Spurs in 1990 for Portsmouth where two years later he would call time on his career on the south coast.

Mr Tottenham himself was at White Hart Lane from 1982 to 1998 making 477 league appearances for the club. Spurs is also where he retired from playing the game too, but he remains a club ambassador for the club.

Hazard famously left Tottenham for Chelsea in 1985 but after spells with Portsmouth and Swindon, he returned to Spurs in 1993 and ended his career in North London two years later.

Winger Galvin played a majority of his career with the Lilywhites but left the club in 1987 to join Sheffield Wednesday. Two seasons later Galvin was on the move to Swindon Town for a season before ending his playing career at Gateshead.

68 league goals in 174 games for Tottenham is a solid record but Mark Falco often flew under the radar.

Spells at Watford, Rangers, and QPR followed after leaving Tottenham in 1986 before ending his playing days in 1992 due to injury at Millwall.

Archibald had a vast career taking in fourteen clubs.

The striker left Tottenham in 1984 for Barcelona but eventually ended his career in Dublin playing a few games for Home Farm Everton in 1996.

The Lilywhites were 90 minutes away from lifting their first piece of European silverware for 35-years last season when they reached the Champions League final […]

[179
188,300
post-1615","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news","tag-spurs","tag-uefa-cup-final

Tony Parks
