For the first time in a transfer window history, one Premier League side made absolutely no signings whatsoever.

Who?

Ah, you already know who, it had to be Spurs didn’t it?

However, has Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy pulled off an absolute masterstroke? And could it be exactly what the Premier League needs to help curb spending?

There is the belief among football fans and clubs that every window you MUST bring in new faces but is that the case?

Whether deep down Pochettino is frustrated is something we just don’t know, however, on the face of it he seems pretty upbeat telling the media it was ‘a brave decision’ by the club.

However, rather than looking at a lack of signings, perhaps looking at the fact that they held on to defenders Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose as well as Mousa Dembele as more important factors considering they featured little last term.

The trio could prove to be like three new signings and now the furore of whether they are leaving or not is over, all three now have the quality to get on with what matters most, performing on the pitch.

With the same side that in the end comfortably qualified for this seasons Champions League ready to attack once again, it could prove to be a transfer move that other clubs choose to take from time to time in order control spending, but only of Spurs hit the ground running.

And running they should be especially as first up is a trip up north to face crisis club Newcastle United.

Spurs did the double over the Magpies last season and many expect more of the same.

However, one thing everyone will be keeping a close eye on is whether Harry Kane can break his August hoodoo.

Newcastle look like being prime candidates for Kane to get the season and August off to a flying start especially considering he scored the winner against the Magpies when the pair met at the end of last season.

No signings are no problem and could prove revolutionary moving forward.

For the first time in a transfer window history, one Premier League side made absolutely no signings whatsoever.
