Two full weeks into the January transfer window and Spurs are still yet to make any major signings. As usual, there have been a string of rumours linking them to most players under the sun.
Let’s take a look at some of the latest January transfer rumours.
Ivan Perisic- Inter Milan
31-year-old Ivan Perisic is reportedly on Spurs’ radar.
Foot Mercato have claimed that Perisic is favoured by Jose Mourinho and the clubs are attempting to negotiate a loan to buy offer by the end of the window.
The Croatian arrived at Inter Milan in 2015 but most recently played for Bayern Munich in the 19/20 season on loan.
In total, Perisic has played 185 times for Milan, scoring 42 goals and notching 38 assists.
Across Europe, in Italy, Belgium and Germany, Perisic has bags of experience and has proven himself time and time again.
Now at 31, he is perhaps reaching his twilight years. But, operating as a wide attacking player, Perisic still has that spark and drive to create goals. He could be another great attacking option for Spurs, bolstering their depth in this area.
He has been a key player for Croatia too and needs only four more caps to complete a centenary for his country.
For Croatia, Perisic has scored 26 goals, including his finish that helped to sink England’s World Cup hopes.
Nicolas Gonzales- Stuttgart
Exciting Argentinian winger Nicolas Gonzales is another target for Tottenham.
David Ornstein, of The Athletic, reports that Spurs are just one of the multiple suitors in the race for the 22-year-old’s signature.
Juventus are the other big club interested in Gonzales.
The Stuttgart winger is in great form this season, scoring five goals and assisting another two in his 10 Bundesliga appearances.
This is despite having to bounce back from two injuries that kept him out for six matches in total.
But he has since played at least 86 minutes in his last four Bundesliga appearances.
Last time out, he scored one and assisted another against Augsburg, suggesting he is fit and in a good vein of form.
Eder Militão- Real Madrid
Brazilian defender Eder Militão is reportedly no longer part of Real Madrid’s plans, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The 6ft 1in centre-half arrived at Real Madrid from Porto in July 2019.
He has made only a handful of appearances with Los Blancos thus far this season, amounting to just 224 minutes of football.
This is a shame considering the brilliant final season he had at Porto which ultimately persuaded Madrid to sign him for £45 million.
In his 29 appearances in Liga NOS that year, in the matches he was involved in, his team recorded 2.62 PPG. He missed only five matches in the league. The rest of the time he played every minute of all 29 matches.
Sadly Porto could only reach second place in Liga NOS, and missed out on what could have been a triple winning season; they finished runners up in Taça de Portugal and Taça da Liga.
Nevertheless, Porto conceded just 49 goals across 57 matches that year.
Militão could help to bolster Tottenham’s defensive options. It is the area where Spurs are lightest. The Brazilian can also play at right-back, which is a useful bonus.
Time will tell if Spurs can secure any of these latest targets, as Mourinho looks to refine his squad.
