Vital three points for Spurs

Most of the talk may be of Charlton Athletic being relegated, but, more importantly to us Spurs fans, getting the three points at The Valley was far more important. It is sad to see them go down as they used to play some good football, but they’re far from the side Alan Curbishley built a few years ago.

I thought all the players played well. Of course, Dimitar Berbatov’s performance stood out – as always. His goal to put us in the lead was fantastic, the skill to get by El Karkouri was sublime and his finished was so clinical.

Admittedly there were times that Charlton put on the pressure, but they lacked the skill and creativity to open us up.

Defoe’s deflected effort scored the second to send Charlton down, but we’re now sixth in the Premiership and just need two points to secure UEFA Cup football next season.

Our last two games are at home – on Thursday we entertain Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City visit on Sunday.

Best of luck next season to Charlton, as long as they invest wisely in new signings, I’ll think they’ll win promotion back to the Premiership straight away.
